about

Desolate Spools - is the DIY record label of critically acclaimed pioneering electronic art collective the ECCENTRONIC RESEARCH COUNCIL from where they have released over the years bespoke limited edition vinyl & tapes direct to fans.

Over the past few months ERC producers Dean Honer (all seeing I/I monster) & Adrian Flanagan (The Moonlandingz/ERC/Adult Entertainment) have invited a handful of new eccentric electronic pop artists to their analog lair in Sheffield to produce up some tracks for them - and to answer the question on every serious music fans lips - where have all the Pop art eccentrics gone? This question will be answered on Friday November 12th when the collective will unveil their finds by releasing Volume 1 of a compilation album titled ‘The Eccentronic Research Council presents: Wayward Freaks from a synthetic Street’ on limited edition cassette & digital featuring a whole host of new ERC produced wayward troubadours; - and to celebrate its release they will be hosting some Desolate Spools showcase events featuring some of these great new artists.

Featured artist on the compilation are as thus..

Eccentronic Research Council ft Maxine Peake: celebrating 10 years of making some of the most critically acclaimed forward thinking and politically charged concept records of the millennium - The ERC ask - where have all the Pop art eccentrics gone?... this compilation album goes some way in guiding you to some good modern day starting points.

God Hole: God Hole is the moniker of New York resident, musician and outsider artist Christy Graff. One of the most exciting and original new artists of the epoch. Her music is simultaneously shit the bed scary and come to bed sexy. A winning combination.

Wet Man: Wet Man: Jack Clayton is Wet Man, a Sheffield born artist with Sheffield music history running like Henderson’s relish through his blood (his dad played in post punk band Artery (A big influence on a young Jarvis Cocker) and who also had a short stint playing in the mighty Cabaret Voltaire). Wet Man merges jerky nervous energy with tales of science fiction and the stupidity of mankind via the gnarly sonics of Nag Nag Nag, Suicide and the Legendary lost, Fat Truckers .

Dimitri: Is an enigma , a crooner, a lover, a philosopher and a East European man of no confirmed location. The original ‘night time driver’ will take you on a sonic journey of great electronic romance, then beat you at Chess before trying to sell you a nightclub in the township of Rotherham. On the compilation tape he collaborates with the queen of Sheffield’s DIY scene - Rosey PM on the track ‘That’s that’ & on ‘Not the Zone pt 2’ he is joined by electronic pop artists - Medianoche from Valencia in Spain.

Damp Carpet: Putting London on the eccentric electronic pop map we have desolate Spools resident eccentric - Micky Milky Graham. A man who lives on a boat off Canvey Island and a man so lyrically dour and melodically sweet you’ll immediately want him to be your Mad Uncle. Musically he resides somewhere between a lo-fi electronic Go Kart Mozart and Kilburn and the high road. Embrace Mad Uncle Micky.

ADULT ENTERTAINMENT: is Salford’s Queen of underground clubland - Chazza ‘Cannon’ Cartwright who in cahoots with the hardest working man in ‘no-biz’ Adrian ERC - makes cerebral twilight psychedelic basement acid music. This modern day electronic Bardot & Gainsbourg of ‘Psychic Salford’ were described by Loud & Quiet magazine(Daniel Dylan Wray) as a ‘woozy, pulsing, grubby coalescence of dance-floor ready electronica that sounds like a hallucinatory piecing together of being in a windowless basement club for three days straight.’

The Valhalla Dale WMC Band: This opposing fictional ‘local’ band to The Moonlandingz were realised in upstate New York when Adrian & Dean were mixing The debut Moonlandingz album with Sean Ono Lennon there in the winter of 2016. At the end of an evening’s mixing - Adrian, Dean & Sean would grab a synth and have post midnight hour long mammoth synth jams - which recently Adrian found an albums worth of tracks on an old hardrive - which Dean and he (with the blessing of Sean) edited down a few tracks of and mixed exclusively for this compilation.
